News from the Campaign:
I've been door knocking along the Little Spokane this week. It is breathtakingly beautiful country, our Spokane County. The area is also an example of the haphazard sprawl that I'm campaigning against. I met a man whose well pumped dry as more and more wells pumped around him. I heard about a girl who had to leave her elementary school friends when the District transferred her to Mt. Spokane High School because the Mead School District boundaries changed to accommodate the unpredictable growth. Another man invited me in to look at his view and showed me where there might be a dense 400-home development several miles from anything similar.
Their common message - they don't feel they have a voice in their community as it grows and develops. I am running for County Commissioner because I want neighborhoods to be the voice, not special interests.

Kim Thorburn has an excellent grasp on the problems facing the Spokane Aquifer and River, including co-founding an interagency committee that got all the regulators talking together for the first time.
