Hello! My name is Dr. Kim Thorburn. I’m running for Spokane County Commissioner from District 1. My life's profession as a public health physician has thoroughly prepared me for this position. After 10 years serving as Director of the Spokane Regional Health District and as Spokane County Health Officer, I came to know our people well and I am very familiar with our region's issues. Before coming to Spokane, I developed and managed health services for the Hawaii jail and prison system. I will apply that invaluable knowledge to public safety and solutions to the problems we face with our Spokane County jails. Our Spokane region is emerging as a world-class area but not everyone is benefiting. That’s why I am running for county commissioner. I will bring my experience to serve all Spokane County residents. PROMOTE SMART GROWTH   We must respect our residents, neighborhoods, and communities by ensuring that our water and air remain safe and our transportation, roads, schools, and housing are adequate as we grow.     SERVE ALL RESIDENTS   We must structure county government so all residents are served. To achieve safe and healthy communities, we need leaders who will balance our investments in economic development, human services, and public safety.         FOSTER TRANSPARENCY   I will work to foster transparency and regional cooperation among government entities. The actions of local government leaders affect us all. Our local leaders must be accessible to everyone and informed by what you think is important. Let's work together on our common goal of safe and healthy communities.
